Q: How are American Hunting Doodles different than other doodle dogs?
A: American Hunting Doodles come from several generations of proven hunting dogs. We breed for health, temperament, and hunting ability. We conduct DNA analysis on our breeding dogs and every puppy to ensure health and provide accurate information on coat quality. We implement early conditioning and training techniques to encourage and nurture the natural hunting instincts in our puppies.
Q: How do American Hunting Doodles compare to other hunting breeds?
A: American Hunting Doodles are incredibly driven and intelligent hunting dogs. Hunting Doodles exhibit the determination of the Labrador, steadiness & sturdiness of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, friendliness of the Golden Retriever, and intellect & loyalty of the Standard Poodle. American Hunting Doodles are versatile hunting dogs and excellent family companions. They would not do well in a kennel environment, however, and should be treated as a member of the family and live indoors.
Q: Are American Hunting Doodles hypoallergenic?
A: Despite the common claim, no dogs are truly hypoallergenic. American Hunting Doodles do have the low shedding genes (RSPO2 & MC5R) often attributed to low allergies.
Q: Is spay and neutering required?
A: We do not require spay and neutering and strongly recommend waiting at least two years before neutering and at least two heat cycles before spaying. We also ask that if you would like to breed our dogs that you enter into a breeder agreement with American Hunting Doodles.
